A Poem by Att10tive; We The Excluded
Today we are debating equality diversity and inclusion
what do we mean by equality,
does it mean the same thing to you and to me
because we’re not the same you and me
we have different experiences
and aspirations and people see us differently, you and me
We have different expectations and aspirations
and people see us in different ways
to be included should be a right
but all to often we have to put up a fight
to put up a fight to be included
to have a seat at the table
to be at the table we have to show that we are able
to make a contribution, those who look like me
We can make a difference and get involved in different ways
but all to often we are excluded, days after days after days
who are we, those in Luton who are excluded
weather intentional or unintentional the impact is the same
its a crying shame, were not playing a game,
when we, the excluded are not at the table,
and we’re able, to make a contribution,
those who look like me, this is our reality,
We know some of you care, and some of you support me
but most don’t, and roll eyes, in shock and surprise, when they see me, take
the knee
and most won’t be friendly, or go out of their way to find those who are like me
But you are deluded, if you think we the excluded, will be included without a
change
a change in direction, but on reflection change will not happen for those who
look like me
without effort and a change, this is our reality
And you’re deluded to think the excluded will be included all by ourselves
Inclusion will not happen by itself
without the barriers taken down we’ll be left on the shelf
we’re not your enemy but this is our reality
those who don’t look like you
People your age, get in a rage when they think of including those who don’t
look like you
they could look like me too, we should all be included
We live in Luton and we’re all around you
Open your eyes, we not in disguise we the excluded, we should be included
